Raised to New Life

Text Verse: Colossians 2:12 NLT
“For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.”
Context: Colossians 2:6-23

Death was not part of God’s original design. Death was a result and consequence of sin, man’s rebellion. We were designed by God to live eternally in union with Him. Sin separated us from God and His kingdom. But because of His great love for us He redeemed us by sending His Son as a substitute for the price of sin. Instead of us paying for it, God the Father sent God the Son as a ransom for us. But God can never be held back by anything, not even death. He is the Almighty God – All powerful, all present, all knowing. Jesus Christ has conquered the death and the grave. He has fully paid the price of sin that we may be redeemed. In Him and through Him we are raised to New Life.

What does it mean that we have been Raised to New Life?

  1. It means we were BURIED WITH HIM. Colossians 2:13 NLT
“You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins.” Our sinful nature and our past worldly life have been buried. Jesus never sinned, He lived a blameless life. Just as a lamb to be offered before was spotless and no defect. Our Lord was given as a perfect sacrifice. To be buried means that we are already dead to sin and no longer connected to our old self. Praise the Lord for what He has done for us.
  2. It means that we have been RAISED WITH HIM. Just as the Lord did not remain on the tomb. We were also raised and resurrected back to life. By the mighty power of God through the Holy Spirit, Jesus was raised back to life on the third day. Our God is the God of resurrection power. And that same power lives in us. Anyone who comes in contact with God through faith have been given complete restoration – physical healing, financial provision, mending of relationships, miracles, solution to impossible situations. God redeems, resurrects and restores.
  3. It means we have NEW LIFE WITH HIM. Without Him our lives will be empty. We can have everything in the world but without His presence, we cannot experience the complete and abundant life. Only through Jesus we can have the genuine joy, peace and love that the world cannot give.
We have a New Life now, today not tomorrow, because God made it possible. Without God we can do nothing that will bring eternal value and will produce results that will glorify Him. But with Him all things are possible. And we can do all things through Him.

Colossians 2:6‭-‬7 NLT
“And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.” Let us continue to abide in the Lord knowing full well that we are secured in His love, that He wants the best for us and that He has a plan to prosper us. We are buried with Him, Raised with Him, and have a New Life with Him. All glory and honor belongs to God. Amen.
